In the Tall, Tall Grass

In the Tall, Tall Grass (An Owlet Book)In the Tall, Tall Grass
by Denise Fleming

Follow along as a little caterpillar walks through and observes all of the different animals and sounds in the tall, tall grass. My kids enjoyed this book mostly because we acted about the sounds and actions of the various animals. The boy on the cover of the book only appears there and on the first page. The caterpillar and the other animals debut for the remainder of the book.

Fireflies for Nathan

by Shulamith Levey Oppenheim
illustrated by John Ward

This book is about a six year old boy who go visits his grandparents. Inquiring from his grandparents about what his father enjoyed doing when he was six, Nathan is interested to find out that his father's favorite thing was to catch fireflies. So, when night came, Nathan along with his Nana and Poppy set out to catch fireflies just like his father did as a young boy. After reading this book, my kids became very intrigued with fireflies. I only wish that we lived in a place where they could share my own childhood joys of catching fireflies!

Lots of Ladybugs!

by Michael Dahl
Illustrated by Todd Ouren

This is a great book to use when learning how to count by fives. I plan to use it during our insect unit as well! It is about a little boy who counts the spots on ladybugs. With each page, there are five more spots to count until you reach "FIFTY black spots on their red, red shells."
