Set in the year of 1943, this book is about a young girl named Leanna and her excitement about the "Easter parade." Leanna calls her older cousin, Elizabeth to ask her more about the parade. Trying to sound excited for the sake of her little cousin, Elizabeth is really concerned about the fact that she and her mother have yet to receive their regular letter from her father who is away at war. I used this book as a read-a-loud to my daughter. We were both surprised to discover exactly what the "Easter parade" was!

This book is about three children who want to buy a the special Easter bonnet in Mr. Kodinski's shop window for Miss Eula. Wanting to earn money to buy the hat, the kids attempt to ask Mr. Kodinski if they can help out around the shop. However they are mistakenly accused of throwing eggs at the shop. Wanting to show Mr. Kodinski that they were innocent, they decided to decorate eggs and give them to him as a gift. He is so impressed with the eggs, that the allows the kids to sell them in his shop. Once the kids had made enough money to buy the hat, Mr. Kodinski tells them to keep their money and he give them to hat. The kids are thrilled to be able to give Miss Eula her special Easter bonnet. After a wonderful Easter Sunday they enjoy another Sunday afternoon having fried chicken at Miss Eula's.

Miz Fannie's husband and daughter surprised her with the finest, new, beautiful Easter hat in all of Meridian City! "The hat was draped with lace and netting and had both fruit and flowers growing on it like a fancy garden. And nestled in a bed of leaves were four little speckled eggs." The entire family was in for a surprise on Easter Sunday when the four little speckled eggs began to hatch!" It was truly a special Easter hat filled with an Easter miracle!

My kiddos and I really enjoyed this book. In fact, this book inspired my daughter and I to make our own Easter hat!
