They build their very own town named Goodsummer, with a population of four. Although the friendly four knew they would be separated for one another for the fall, winter, and spring, they looked forward to next summer and the return of Goodsummer!

Set in the year of 1943, this book is about a young girl named Leanna and her excitement about the "Easter parade." Leanna calls her older cousin, Elizabeth to ask her more about the parade. Trying to sound excited for the sake of her little cousin, Elizabeth is really concerned about the fact that she and her mother have yet to receive their regular letter from her father who is away at war. I used this book as a read-a-loud to my daughter. We were both surprised to discover exactly what the "Easter parade" was!

Grandpa's face told everything about him. Tamika loved her grandfather's face. Even when he was upset or disappointed with her, she could still his love for her in his face. As an actor in the theater, Tamika's grandpa was a man of many faces. However, when Tamika sees her grandpa making a different face, a mean face, a face that did not show love. She became scared that someday her grandpa would look at her with that face. However, her reassures her that it was only a pretend face (for the theater) and that he would always love her.

This book is about a girl named Janell and her imaginary friend Neesie. Although my kids do not currently have any imaginary friends (at least not that I know of), they really enjoyed this book and totally caught on to the idea that Neesie was not real. Even though the kids liked the book, we did have to have some discussions about Neesie's behavior, which was less than stellar.

This is a collection of poems about brothers and sisters. There were some really cute poems included! The poems deal with all kinds of family related topics including sibling rivalry and having a new baby sister. There is even a poem about being twins (which we enjoyed...since we have two sets in our house!)  :-)
